Tonight was a new class for me! I almost forgot! But I read my email around 5 and remembered! I am doing the Journal Junket class with Jaki Ernst! It is intimate and fun, there are four of us and I know one person, Karen, from Treasures in Los Altos, I really like her! I really am terrible with names I can't remember the other two ladies names! GAH
Anyway, she showed us how to do a tip in! I am so excited! I actually did it...And I got the wonderful journal that she sells for the class as well...I already had the book. I love how this journal can actually grow and the ones she has done things in already get to be fat with art! I am going to put in another tip in to make a Gate Fold in the book. Then I have to figure out what it is I want to do with those fold out pages!
We will bring collage into it as well, which makes me feel a little better considering I am not an drawer type artist, I doodle thats it...although I will be referring to Sark, Frida Kahlo when I get her journal from Amazon, and the other journal books to reference style. I am going to play with my writing...using different styles. And maybe the simple lines that will reference the every day will come out of my fingers!
Homework:
- Gesso at least 4 random pages in the center of the book. She suggested sanding the Gesso page on one to see the smoothness you can get. And leave brush strokes on the other so it becomes interesting when colored!
- Leave 15 pages in the back of the book where we will be doing a cut out later.
- She gave us purple pages to stitch and tip into the book. A book within a book within a book. These areto make your story about the problems with your journaling...what you want to focus on and then tip it in.
- Use RATS...Random Access Thoughts to meander around your page and bring in interesting elements to your words.
Now what cracks me up is I did not read the Universe tip for the day...look at this:
Meanwhile, Gypsy, long, long ago you were entrusted with an editor's pen, of sorts, so if you'd like to write in the margins, take center stage, or just doodle, I'll guarantee you there'll be readers.
