This is interesting...I am considering doing this.
The Remember September Mail Art Memorial collection now contains 1,200 wonderful works of Mail Art from the responses of the past two years. It is once again time to take a few moments to honor the victims & heroes of the 9/11 attacks by making a piece of Mail Art to add to the collection. Here are the details on how to participate - oh, and, PLEASE, pass this information on to as many people as you can think of and ask them to pass it on as well -
- Decorate any size envelope with 9/11 relevant artwork using any art media you prefer
- collage, watercolor, crayon, digital imaging, calligraphy, rubber stamping - whatever your favorite art form is. The envelopes will never be opened so feel free to include a private poem, prayer, or statement expressing your private thoughts.
- Clearly address the envelope to: Remember September, P.O. Box 793, Katonah, NY 10536.
- Put your return address & e-mail address on the BACK of the envelope.
- Affix postage and mail on 9/11/04 (dates close to that are also acceptable).
- All participants who provide a good mailing address will receive acknowledgement of their contribution.
- By submitting envelopes, the creators of the artwork are granting permission to Remember September Mail Art Memorial to share and/or publish the work as related to the project. This may be in the form of printed material, CD, website, book, public exhibit, or any other media which the curator selects.
- Any income, less reasonable expenses, from the use of the Remember September envelopes will be donated to 9/11 related charitable organization(s).
- A CD of the envelopes will be produced and all participants will be notified when it is available. 100 participants will be randomly selected to receive a free CD. Those who organize a group of 20 or more participants will receive a free CD by submitting a list of the participants in their group who submitted envelopes (please mail the list to the Remember September address, marked "Attention: Group Leader List").
- Go to www.ArtellaWordsandArt.com/RememberSeptember.html to view an article and some envelopes from the 2002 collection.
I am in the process of establishing a not-for-profit corporation after which a website will be created. All participants will be notified after the website is fully operational.
Please pass this information on to friends, family, school groups, youth & scout groups - it is also a great project for senior citizen groups.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this project - I hope you will take a little time to create and submit an envelope to this living, growing memorial which keeps alive our promise to "never forget".
