In the annals of advertising imagery, few brand symbols are more iconic and recognizable than the Sun-Maid raisin girl. Nevertheless, Sun-Maid recently decided to join Betty Crocker, Aunt
Jemima and Mrs. Butterworth's in giving the female face of their
product a substantial makeover from a young, early 20th-century girl
into a buxom, modern young woman, leading some to say that the newly
made-over raisin girl looks like a Barbie Doll in Amish attire...the changes to the 90-year-old icon were actually introduced three years ago.
Additionally, there's been talk hat the new Sun-Maid girl might be given a name and featured in future
advertisements doing some of the things modern women typically do, like
going to the gym, shopping at the market, and speaking multiple
languages, particularly languages native to countries where Sun-Maid,
the world's largest producer and processor of raisins and other dried
fruits, sells raisins. However, the image on all Sun-Maid product
packaging will remain the same, as the new version will only be
featured in product advertisements.
I am all for a remake but huge fake looking boobs? Who thought that was ok? And any one that skinny can't have boobs that big that are natural...boobs are fat people!!! And normal bodies have BALANCE...your arms can't be 7 inches wide and you have boobs at size DD cups men! LOL She would fall over before she could walk or hold up the grapes to feed you in your silly fantasy! snort! Keep your make over...just make her boobs more realistic! Rolling eyes!
If you see failure as a monster stalking you, or one that has already ruined your life, take another look. That monster can become a benevolent teacher, opening your mind to successes you cannot now imagine. -- Martha Beck Feeling a bit like a failure...I choose to let the weight be my teacher...
Some times we just have to embrace ourselves just the way we are right where we are and stop making ourselves crazy! I just have to let go of the skinny gypsy and enjoy where I am!
I had a GREAT mail day though! Including a RAOK from LoriMarsha! Thank you very much!
Fan and I went to Menlo Parks Lisa's Tea, it was delightful! We spent our time going over every thing going on in our lives and bitching about our jobs and jerks we deal with! GAH...idiots are every where! Outside the building was a fantastic piece of public art! Bandits! I loved it! There was so much food we took some home!
Our time goes by so quickly that I could not believe she got here at noon and when we looked at the time it was already 7 pm!!!! We stopped off at Borders and I picked up some of the magazines I love and one had Patricia Joy on the cover! Yeah!!!! I had to get that one! I still have not found the one with LoriMarsha in it! May have to order that one.
I did do some knitting on my sweater...and I picked up my family room BEFORE Fan got here....so I am making a dent in the clutter...she offered to come and help me clean...you know you are friends when you do that...I may take her up on it.
I finished Lucy's scarf...I hate what I did to it...but it is on its way to Beth!
Lucy invited me up for a few days, and of course I packed and went to visit...so from December 28 - 30, 2007, I was able to share some time with Lucy and Roy. She also invited Beth so we were all there! Roy was able to golf and we were able to play art or just sit and visit.
We went to some of Lucy's fav shops on the 28th which I could have passed on since I spend money in shopping even when I don't want to! But I did get to go to a couple of really cool yarn stores. I needed to add to the stash for my capelet. One store has great icons in it! AND I found a beautiful vintage looking velvet robe. I also bought the silver version of the gold necklace Lucy has that is crown like with a beautiful photo in the center.
Lucy was able to start my capelet off so I wouldn't get a mobious going and I am happy! It is busily coming along and I am enjoying the process.
On the 29th we met up with an old friend and went to a couple of stores, the first one I resisted buying anything, and it had a beautiful French display in the window! but in the second they had 50% off of their ornaments so I bought two, one is a crown and the other an old thread bobbin, and some moss for my art work.
Then back to Lucy's where we re-created some vintage ornaments! We used printed images of Lucy's grandfathers paintings! So much fun, we just sat and worked, had lunch and said goodbye to our old friend. We had a nice day!
We had a lazy morning together on the 30th and Beth and I left by about 12-12:30 to let Lucy be lazy for the rest of the day. I stopped off at a yarn store in Saratoga and fell in love with the shop! It is the most divine shop ever! They even have FREE classes! I am going to sign up for some! I bought a couple of more yarns for the capelet and continued to work on it. I got pretty far! AND I am home again! It is nice being away but always wonderful to come home!
Last night after I came home from my massage there were three boxes from Missouri, but I was so tired I left them for today and went to bed...I got through two boxes today. I haven't opened the third yet. I was SO overwhelmed with happiness, joy, and sheer delight!
My dad packed up things my grandmother wanted me to have. I am SO excited! A box of baby doll nighties, gloves, purses, scarves, tatting, collars ... including a fox one! And some photos of her that were taken recently! There was another piece of tatting that my Great-grandmother had made, it will match the one she gave me 13 years ago or so. I am so happy!
I was so overwhelmed all I could do was cry! When we talked the day she mailed it, she said she felt foolish because AFTER she mailed them she thought everything was crap! I had to tell her today that she was SO wrong! I love everything! Most of the items are over 30 years old...and I am in heaven! I am SO going to wear them! I am just so excited! I still have to take good photos, I was just to, overwhelmed tonight, of all the wonderful items! The weird thing...everything smells like my grandma's house...so strange to have it in my house so strong. It made me feel so much more close to her today! I needed that connection!
Here is the hand knitted collar with beading, Fox collar, scarves in beads, Tatting and the happy Gypsy girl!!!!
